About Ozi Tatami

G'Day, Ozi Tatami owner and manager Craig here. I started studying a Japanese martial art around mid 2007 and after joining forums, reading magazines and listening to various groups around Australia, I kept hearing the same thing over and over...'the tatami here are too expensive'...'ours are dirty'...'we don't have anything to cut'...the list goes on and on. Something had to be done.

Now, the martial arts community has been wonderful to me -  friendly and welcoming, the sort of people that go out of their way to help out, really, just one big family. So, I want to give something back and this is one way to do it as well as help the wider 'cutting' community test and improve their skill with a truly decent and affordable target. A win - win situation for everyone!

I've also been chatting with some guys from Western style martial arts, medieval re-enactment groups and European martial arts groups, although tatami omote wasn't used historically, they are very interested in the material for its testing purposes. It makes sense really, a consistent, clean target to accurately simulate the resistance to a cutting implement, whether it be Japanese, Chinese, Korean, North American, or any number of different European blade types.

Ozi Tatami is a small team and we plan to stay that way. This keeps the prices low and the service at the human level.
